Beginner Quilting Class: From Start to Finish - In Person , 2 part class at our WQC Education Centre, 119 King St. W, Prescott

In this beginner quilting class we will be making a table runner that you will complete from start to finish.

You will learn how to:

  • correctly cut your fabric for quilting
  • iron fabric and what the difference is between ironing and pressing
  • make Half Square Triangle Blocks (HST's) using 3 different methods
  • trim blocks accurately. Precision is very important in quilting.
  • match/nest seams and to sew with a 1/4" seam allowance
  • baste your table runner top, batting and backing fabric to prepare for quilting
  • straight line quilt your runner using a walking foot
  • to make binding and apply it to your table runner

Watergirl Quilt Co. is offering you this beginner's quilt class by teaching the skills with a small, manageable project because in quilting, size does not matter! All the steps of the journey are the same, whether it be a little placemat or a king size bed quilt.

This class is in two sessions.

Session 1, Sunday, November 7th from 10am to 3pm (with a lunch break):

In this session, you will learn to iron fabrics, cut the fabric, sew HST's, trim HST's, how to press the seams open, and how to sew the blocks together.

*Then you continue making the total amount of required blocks as homework so that you have a completed table runner top when you return for the second session.

Session 2, Sunday, November 28th from 10am to 3pm (with a lunch break):

In this session, you will learn how to baste the 3 layers together, how to quilt it using the walking foot on your sewing machine, and how to make the binding and attach it to the quilt.
