Beginner - Learn to Quilt
Join Michelle and Maureen for this 6 session “beginner” Learn to Quilt Class where you will make a stroller / lap quilt; finishing approximately 30” x 30”) from start (fabric selection, cutting) to finish (quilting, binding). Each session is 3 hours long, for a total of 18 hours.

Fabric Requirement:
6 fabrics are required for your Learn to Quilt project. They range in colour value from dark, medium and light. Plus a pop of colour.
We suggest you select your fabrics during or after the first class where we will be covering how to select fabrics and show you how to use the Gray Scale Finder Tool During your first class we will discuss how to select fabrics and spend 45 minutes in our shop. You are welcome to use fabrics from home or purchase at Watergirl Quilt Co. or a combination of the both.

Batting – 35” x 35” – if you select a crib size pack of batting you will have some left over

Reference Material
We will be using Alex Anderson’s “Make your First Quilt” for reference. It is not mandatory to have this book for class, but it is an excellent resource and will provide you with another project.
Sewing and Quilting supplies
- rotary cutter (required for session 2)
- cutting mat (you will have use of one in the classroom)
- seam ripper
- straight pins; such as
- long quilting ruler 6 1/2” " x 24" or wider is recommended, but smaller rulers can be used
- scissors / snips for clipping threads
- thread 50wt cotton thread for piecing
- basting pins (required for session 5)
- walking foot (required for session 5)
- Tucker Timmer I (up to 12½”) or Pint size Tucker Trimmer (up to 6 ½”)(required for session 3)
- Magic Wand (required for session 3)
Sewing Machine
- bring your machine
- user guide / manual; it is always good to bring your user guide / manual in case
you run into any problems.
- pedals, power cords, pressor feet
Machine rentals
Don't feel like bringing your machine with you? Rental machines are available (limited quantity). For a one time fee of $50 you may rent a BERNINA 475 to use in our classroom for the duration of the Learn to Quilt classes. Please contact our store directly to make arrangements.
In our classroom at Watergirl Quilt Co
You will be able to enjoy the use of our:
- tables; sit / stand mechanical raise and lower
- chairs NOTE: for added comfort bring a seat cushion.
- iron and ironing boards
- cutting mats on large table for cutting
Complimentary
Coffee and tea will be available in our kitchenette. Please bring a travel mug or sealed cup to avoid any spillage. Tap water is drinkable.
Allergy alerts
People suffer from various allergies and medical conditions. To help avoid any incidents, we request you do not bring or wear the following:
- Seafood
- Peanuts
- Perfumes / scented products
Arrival:
You may enter via the main door of the store or if someone is in the classroom they can open its door to make it easier to bring your things in.
Parking
Limited parking spots are available in the parking lot at store level. Please refer to signage to ensure you are NOT parked in a spot that is designated for resident parking. Free long term town parking is available on the river side of our building, to the left. There is no parking allowed on the Water Street. E-chargers are available within the Shoppers Drug Mart parking lot
NOTE: there is time limit for the parking in the Shoppers Drug Mart parking lot.

Cancellation of Classes/Retreats? |

Should you decide to cancel your registration more than 2 weeks prior to the class date, you will receive a full store credit on a Watergirl Quilt Co. gift card. If you cancel 2 weeks or less, prior to class date, you will forfeit your full registration fee.
If Watergirl Quilt Co. has to cancel an event that you have paid for, you will receive a full refund. Occasionally classes and retreats may be cancelled if the minimum number of 4 required participants has not been reached prior to the class. In this case, a full refund will be issued to you via your original payment method; if payment method was by credit or debit. If the original payment was by cash, you will be issued the full refund on a Watergirl Quilt Co gift card. These refunds will be issued within 14 days of the cancellation. You may also apply the credit amount to a different class. |
