Retreat Registration is Open Now!

Hello Everyone,

Watergirl Quilt Co. is very excited to be co-hosting our first virtual retreat with Dragons Heart Quilts and Susan Madu of Modern Blended Quilts.

This virtual retreat allows you to stay in the safety of your own home and not have to lug a trunk full of gear with you to get to the retreat. All that you need to do is get your sewing projects ready, turn on your device and login to the Zoom link that will be provided. You will save so much time for extra sewing!

The fun will begin at 7pm EST on Friday, June 11th with a social hour of games and introductions followed by the opportunity to sew and chat with other quilters until 11pm EST if you wish.

On Saturday, June 12th we will begin our day at 11am EST and end at 11pm EST. That does not mean that you have to participate in every part of the retreat! If you like to take an afternoon nap during quilt retreats, then go for it! But you will probably want to stay awake. lol.

On Sunday, June 13th there will be activities from 11am EST until 6pm EST.

What do you get for your registration fee?

  • a front row seat to lectures and trunk shows with quilting experts

  • 5 hours of demos, instruction and lectures from Susan Madu who is a Canadian pattern designer and teacher from Calgary, Alberta.

  • a trunk show about Quilts of Valour by pattern designer and quilter, Paul Leger

  • a demonstration and lecture by Shelly and Bernie Tobisch, creators of the Acorn Easy Press products that we all love!

  • stretching breaks with Rose Parr of Healthy Quilting

  • break-out rooms to meet with other quilters and chat

  • lots of unstructured sewing time when you can chat with others while sewing

  • games and prizes

  • 2 Fat Quarters and the pattern Bright Squares by Susan Madu (Susan will teach the techniques used in this pattern. You can continue to make the whole pattern or design your own ideas with the blocks that Susan will teach you how to make.)

You will leave this weekend feeling refreshed and inspired to quilt even more! You will improve your skills and acquire knowledge in the following areas:

  • how to efficiently and accurately create blocks with squares in the middle using the Studio 180 Square Squared ruler (Sometimes called the Squared 2 ruler)

  • how to square up your quilt and prep it for a long-armer, including effective pressing methods and how to "clean up the back of your quilt top).quilt

  • how to accurately add borders to a quilt

  • bindings: tips for choosing which kind of binding to use and demos

  • ideas for creating labels for your quilts

  • how to make a quilt sleeve

  • big stitch quilting

Hmm, it sounds like you could be getting your skills squared up for when those guild quilt shows start up again and put out calls for entry for your quilts!

Register now at this link! We can't wait to see you!

Stay safe, stay hopeful and do something that makes you smile!

P.S.

If you would like to add on the suggested 6 Fat Quarter bundle of black and white fabrics, you will be able to complete the
full size Bright Squares runner if you wish. During the retreat, Susan will teach how to make one of each of the different kinds of blocks. She will give you instructions to turn the blocks into mug rugs or other little projects in case you do not wish to make the whole runner.
